It didn’t ruffle my feathers, but I do quibble with your distinction about art vs design when it comes to zines. I don’t know if there’s a point in making the distinction because zines aren’t one thing. Some people treat them as publications and others as folded art. I rather more people just make things and not worry about what to call them or what to call themselves.
Regardless, I think it’s cool you’re sharing the hurdles you stumbled over as well as the ones you’ve cleared. I think that’s always valuable because so many people just put out the takes of unbridled unabashed creativity that lands every time and it’s not real.

I made a zine for my aunts when I was a kid. It was a dictionary of our family vernacular. I didn't know it was a zine at the time, as zine culture didn't really make it to my corner of rural North Dakota. I did the whole thing in a very old version of some program in Windows, and it was not easy. I found a copy of it when I was cleaning my mom's sewing room a couple years ago.
I love the idea of collage, and I use a lot of collage in my mixed media work, but I actually hate getting glue on my fingers. I have....particular texture aversions. If I find a good enough idea, though, I might have to bust out a zine. This is a fun project to follow
