The genesis of these cans started with the idea of repurposing what were formerly cast-offs from my art explorations. Those were the cans that I used and almost tossed in the trash.
Recently, while walking along the beach with my family, we happened across a lot of coastal debris, including a lot of trash. Some of that trash was old spray cans that spent their better days at sea, but came ashore, dinged and rusted. My wife saw them as a tetanus shot waiting to happen I saw them as an opportunity.
The design on this can has no relationship to that story except that when I painted it, I decided to try something new because of it didn’t work, no harm—no foul.

These objects are created using discarded spray cans, that either I, or artist friends have used on other pieces of art. The media becomes the substrate, and where it goes from there is anyone's guess until I believe they are finished.
